Scholarships posted during April 2013 If you’re a senior, going to college, and has a consistent after-school work history, we might have a scholarship for you!! The Alliance for Unity is looking for students whose family income qualifies for free or reduced lunch in Utah. Along with those qualifications, they must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and been accepted for post-secondary education. If this sounds like you, come to the counseling center for more details Seniors!! If you’re the first one in your family to go to college, this scholarship is for you!! It’s called the I’m First scholarship and it’s a $2000, four-year renewable scholarship. There is a list of partnered universities that you must attend. For Utah, it is UVU. If you are going out of state, check to see if your school is on the approved list!! You can check online at www.imfirst.org/scholarship/ or come to the counseling center for further details!! Deadline is May 24, 2013. Seniors who are planning on attending the University of Utah, there is a new scholarship that just came up!! It is a $3500 scholarship from the Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy. For more information, go to: Scholarships posted during March 2013 Seniors: The Sons of the Utah Pioneers scholarship is finally here!! This is a $1500 scholarship for a senior that has overcome disadvantages, such as physical, social or economic challenges and demonstrate the scholarly ability to succeed in college. Scholarship applications are in the counseling center. Seniors: If you’re thinking about a career in Engineering, The Utah Society of Professional Engineers is offering a $1000 scholarship for Utah High School Seniors majoring in Engineering at a college or university in Utah. Applications are in the counseling center. Senior Girls: The Cedar City Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business invite you to apply for this year’s WIB Scholarship Program. You must plan on attending an accredited Iron County university, college or trade-school for the 2013-14 school year. Come to the counseling center for applications. Seniors: The SWATC scholarship applications are here!! Come to the counseling center to pick one up. This scholarship is to help with tuition costs at SWATC. Scholarships posted during February 2013 Seniors, if you’ve done some humanitarian work either in Utah or in another country, there is an amazing scholarship opportunity for you!! Youthlinc is offering a $5000 scholarship for a Utah student and three $1000 runner-up awards. For the online application, go to www.youthlinc.org and click on Young Humanitarian Award for more info. The award is sponsored by the George S. & Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation. Senior girls going to the University of Utah: If you are thinking of majoring in science or math, there is a great opportunity for you to become part of their ACCESS program for women. There is, also, the opportunity to get a $3500 award that goes along with the summer semester. Come to the counseling center for applications and details. There is a mandatory summer session that must be attended for June 10-July 26. Seniors: The State Bank of Southern Utah scholarship applications are in!! Come pick one up in the counseling office. Sophomores through seniors: The SUU Health Career Exploration Camp applications are now available. This is for students who want a hands-on health career learning experience. This is a 3-day experience at SUU from June 17-19. Cost is $100. Come pick up an application in the counseling office. You can also download an application at www.suu.edu/ahec Seniors planning on attending Utah State, there are some housing and scholarship opportunities that have just come in!! Scholarships posted during January 2013 Seniors: If you are the child, step-child, grandchild, step-grandchild, or great-grandchild of someone who has served in the military from WW1 to present day, the American Legion Auxiliary is offering the Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship. Come get your applications in the counseling office. Seniors: The Utah JumpStart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy is proud to sponsor four $1000 scholarships for Utah high school seniors. Applications are in the counseling offic. Junior Girls: The American Legion is once again sponsoring Girls State at SUU this summer. It’s a great chance to earn college credit and pick up some scholarships!! Come in NOW to the counseling center to sign up for interviews, which are February 8, 2013!! If you’re a female senior with Italian heritage, there’s a Women’s Italian American Civic League $1000 scholarship available. It’s based on ACT, GPA and extracurricular work. Come to the counseling office for applications. The TH Bell scholarship is for those students going into the teaching profession. This loan will pay up to $995 per semester. There are requirements that you stay and teach in Utah. Come to the counseling center for applications and details. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society Scholarship program is open to students who have multiple sclerosis or anyone who is the child of someone with multiple sclerosis. The scholarships range from $1000 to $3000. Utah State Office of Education is offering scholarships and tuition awards for outstanding students in Career and Technical Education classes. The awards are up to one year of tuition. To qualify, students must either receive an associate’s degree or less in a CTE area, or a bachelor’s with a teaching credential in a CTE area. If you’re thinking of attending BYU and enrolling in either geology, environmental geology, earth and space science education, or engineering geology, then this is for you! It’s the George Hansen Fellowship in Geological Sciences. The awards cover up to one year of tuition. Eligible applicants have a 1:2 odds of receiving an award. Would you spend four to five hours compiling a portfolio to receive well over $1,500? That's the reality of students applying for the over 100 CTE scholarships and tuition awards. -Guidelines and Application - PDF Scholarships Posted during November 2012 Seniors: The American Legion has a website for scholarship and financial aid information. Go to www.legion.org/needalift Seniors: If you plan to go into education as your career, we have a scholarship for you!! It’s the Lynn Jensen Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship amount is $500. The Jiffy Lube “What Drives You” scholarship program has arrived!! This is for students enrolled in driver education during this school year and the “Teen Driver” scholarship award is offered to all other eligible licensed teen drivers. Application can be found at www.yourturn2apply.com or come to the counseling center for applications. There is one overall $5000 scholarship and one $1500 scholarship in each category (in Driver’s Ed and already licensed drivers). Stokes Educational Scholarship Program Scholarships Posted during October 2012 Students: The University of Utah is sponsoring the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Leadership Awards. This is open to Utah Students grades 7-12. If you’re a student who is dedicated to the beliefs of Dr. King, which include social action, positive change and building bridges among cultures and communities, then you need to apply!! Seniors: If you have started your own business, you may qualify for the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award program. If you’ve been involved with DECA, FBLA, FFA or other youth organizations, come get an application!! Come into the counseling center for application instructions. If you’re a high school senior planning to attend college next year, and if you have a track record of demonstrating strength of character, leadership, and service to your community, then you may have what it takes to receive the Daniels Scholarship. Each year, approximately 250 new scholarships are selected from among thousands who apply in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. For more information, go to the Daniels Fund website at DanielsFund.org. The Aspirations Award honors young women at the high-school level for their computing related achievements and interests. This year for the first time there will be a Utah event with 10 award winners. All applicants will also be considered for the National award. National winners receive $500, a laptop and a trip to the March 9, 2013 awards gala. More information is available at http://www.aspirationsaward.org. Pick up applications in the counseling center. The National Elks Foundation will be giving away over $2,000,000 in scholarships nationally!! Seniors: If you’ve lost a parent or guardian to breast cancer OR they are a breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed at 25 or younger, you qualify for the Susan G. Koman for the Cure College Scholarship. Scholarships Posted during September 2012 Attention Senior Girls: The Cedar City chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O) is taking applications for a one time $2500 scholarship to senior women who demonstrate outstanding leadership, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community service. They also must plan to pursue full or part time post-secondary education in the United States or Canada beginning in the fall following their high school graduation. If you think you qualify for this, come into the counseling center and pick up an application. The deadline for contacting the local chapter is October 13, 2012. This is a great opportunity and multiple scholarships are given out according to funds available. Wendy's High School Heisman Award Government and leadership education program in Washington, D.C. Utah Higher Education Scholarships Daughter’s of the American Revolution Scholarship: Each year the DAR awards over $150,000 through more than 25 scholarships to young individuals for their outstanding academic achievements. DAR Scholarships are offered for a wide range of disciplines including: history, law, medical, nursing, music, education and many more. For more information, go to www.dar.org or see the counseling center. The American Fire Sprinkler Association is awarding 10 $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors. The student will be required to take a ten-question multiple-choice test, which is open book. You may only take the test once. Coda Memorial Scholarship Fund provides a one-time merit-based scholarship to an exceptional Utah woman attending a college or university outside the state of Utah. The recipient must be a Utah resident at the time of the application and have attended high school or college in Utah. Pick up applications in the counseling office. Pet Play Scholarship Virtual Business Scholarship application is now available online. The application is accessible at: www.KnowledgeMatters.com/scholarships. Business, marketing and personal finance students currently enrolled in their junior and senior years of high school throughout the United States are eligible for the scholarship. The applications will be judged nationally and the winner will receive $2,000.
